On A Pale Horse is the first novel in a series that spans Death, Time, Fate, War, Nature, Evil, and Good. They are all connected by seemingly coincidence to each other, but each book is connected to each other by a masterpiece of writing by the author, Piers Anthony. Death concerns a young man by the name of Zane when he walks into a magic gem store and is eventually tricked into throwing away a perfect romance. He falls into despair when he realises he has nothing left to live for. His landlord is going to lock him out because of back rent owing, and decides to take his own life.

Zane is amazed to see Death coming for him personally when he attempts suicide by using a gun on himself, but turns it on Death at the last instant. Much to Zane’s surprise, it works, and Death is dead! Fate then intervenes to help him become the new Death, and explains to him about the need for death, and the Temporary Immortals. He makes a few bungles along the way, but equites himself in the end.

This book was the first in the series, and I realised that I had to get them all. They were so riveting that I could not put the book down when I first started reading, and I bought the other books in the series as quickly as possible. These books are a masterpiece in the genre of Fantasy, and should not be overlooked.
